MegaType was originally started in 1993 in Johannesburg South Africa by Megan Lavin. After a couple of years we bought an image-setter and spent the next five years doing the page set-up and repro for a South African magazine called "FleetWatch". We did the same for another bi-monthly publication called "Succeed". At that time, MegaType had six employees.
Johannesburg has an extremely high rate of lightning strikes, and our raster imaging processor was struck by lightning and ceased to function anymore. Unfortunately due to poor insurance cover, we had to sell everything, pay the staff and close our doors in 1999.
PRESENT
MegaType Publishing has been resurrected in New Zealand. We have moved with technology and grown a bit and now offer even more services.
We offer investigative journalism, copy writing, editing, illustration, web design, graphic design as well as pre-press services.
We are currently producing The New Zealand Artist Magazine, which involves compiling, writing, editing, graphic design, management and distribution.
